Description

Long before Mazra-Asae proclaimed their coming, Liorium was a land of countless gods. Among them were the halfling gods, worshiped in megalithic temples and cave shrines throughout the Akaic Sea. And perhaps no god was venerated more than The Spiral-Masked Beast, The Dancer in the Thorns, The One Who Bears Four Lanterns, The Trickster, The Weeping God, Exagalis.

The Weeping God Exagalis is the halfling god of trickery, madness, thievery, entertainment and knowledge. Once he watched over the halflings as a true god, answering prayers (though oftentimes not in the manner expected), and bringing the mortals the four teachings of the gods- fire, agriculture, writing and metalworking. Had Exagalis not assisted them, the halfling civilization would have been very different, if indeed it had come to be at all.

But time would not be kind to the halfling pantheon. The Akaic Sea was one of the first places targeted by Mazra-Asae in their divine war to become the true god of Magnamaris. Some of the halfling gods were slain in the ensuing battle, but most managed to escape. As the years went on the Mazraean Church supplanted the halfling gods. Their temples were repurposed and their shrines abandoned, and the old gods were forgotten. But the old pantheon remained in the cultural memory of the halflings as folk heroes and saints, allowing the surviving gods to cling to a meager existence. Still far beyond most men, they were nevertheless substantially weaker than they had been as gods.

It was The Weeping God's idea to cling to this world as folk heroes, and his stories are the most widely told. He holds power, but it is like a candle to the inferno that was godhood. Time is running out as the halfling gods grow less powerful every year until they will finally fade away. The Weeping God seeks to regain his godhood before this happens, and thus he has begun to reach out into the minds of those whose ancestors worshiped him and find some way to regain his power.
